The mission of the Towaliga Veterans' Court (TVC) is to provide an inter-agency, collaborative, non-adversarial treatment strategy for Veterans currently involved with the criminal justice system who suffer from PTSD, psychological problems, and/or substance abuse problems problems as a result of having served in our Armed Forces.

Admission Criteria

Cases considered for admission to the TVC include both misdemeanor and felony cases, where the Veterans' Court team believes admission will protect the public and will assist the Veterans and their families.

Goals of the Veterans' Treatment Court

• Protect the public
• Reduce participant contacts with the criminal justice system
• Reduce costs associated with the criminal justice system
• Introduce participants to an ongoing process of recovery designed to help them become stable, employed, and substance-free while continuing mental care through community/peer conseling groups or the VA.

Veterans Mentor Program

Each Veteran that enters the Towaliga Accountability Courts Veteran Treatment Court Program will be assigned a Volunteer Veteran Mentor. The role of the mentor will be to act as a coach, a guide, a role model, an advocate, and a support for the individual he/she is working with. A mentor is intended to encourage, guide, and support the mentee while he/she progresses through the court program.
